Dear Woodstock Friends and Neighbors,
WE NEED YOUR HELP! Since our last fundraising drive in
November of 2004, many exciting changes have occurred at our
library site!
The Addition Project was initiated to create additional
space for the library and to preserve West Woodstock’s first
official library, the John F. Williams’ Law Office which was
built around 1820 and is an important part of Woodstock’s
history.
Our citizens and patrons have contributed approximately
$25,000 to this project. The Quinnebaug-Shetucket Heritage
Corridor awarded grants of $15,000 (a $10,000 Partnership
Grant for the addition and a $5,000 Preservation Grant for
the Law Office). A significant amount of native lumber has
been donated. Volunteers have given many hours to move the
project forward.
With these donations, we have been able to complete Phases I
and II. The John F. Williams’ Law Office has been
reconstructed on a new foundation saving as much of the
original boards, beams and materials as possible. The deck
of the connecting addition was constructed, as well as a
weather-tight structure which ties the buildings together
and a new vestibule has been built.
We are now into Phase III which will pretty much finish the
inside of the connecting addition – insulation, sheetrock,
window and door trim and flooring. Our best estimate for
this finishing job is $19,120 – a good portion of which we
hope to get in grants.
That’s where YOU can really help – we need matching funds to
apply for these grants so we are asking once again for you
send us a contribution to be used to complete our project.
Your donation will help us to reach this goal. If you have a
preference as to the way your contribution will be utilized,
please let us know. Thank you for helping to keep the
library a viable part of your community.
Thank you,
